About
Hello, I’m Pengie! I’m a researcher, writer, and editor, and I’ve worked on nine New York Times best sellers. I’m passionate about danmei, which is a genre of Chinese fiction focused on romances between men, and helped pioneer its first mass-market publication in English.
I originally became aware of the danmei genre in early 2019, and was hooked the moment I started reading Suika‘s then-ongoing fan translation of Heaven Official’s Blessing: Tian Guan Ci Fu by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. I offered my services as an editor and assisted Suika with polishing and refining the translation of the full novel, at which point we decided to approach Seven Seas Entertainment with the idea of buying our work in December 2020. We put them in touch with a licensing contact in China, and in doing so, we introduced danmei to the western publishing world in December 2021 with Mo Xiang Tong Xiu’s popular trio of works. The books were a smashing success and continually saw deserved placements on best seller lists in the United States and across the world.
As a long-time fan of danmei, I have firsthand knowledge of what readers are passionate about and want to see. I’m experienced in localization and adaptation of Chinese media for the North American/English-speaking market and hope to continue bringing related works to interested readers.
